Hi Colleen, indeed, that was fast from moderate to severe. Know that your surgery will feel just as fast and by Christmas (if you celebrate such) you will be walking around the home and outside (if warm enough for you). The odds are way in your favor for a very successful surgery. You have an outstanding surgeon ---- great medical education at Johns Hopkins and lots of experience with your type of surgery. Look forward to hearing about your recovery and your walking laps around the floor at the hospital afterwards. My husband would visit and I called them my "strolls" with my loved one. Godspeed, Colleen.

Colleen - Thanks for sharing your story. I recently also found out I had a bicuspid valve. I chose a tissue valve. I did a lot of research and had pretty much thought I would go mechanical but on the day of my surgery, my surgeon informed me that a tissue valve could be replaced later through a catheter vs. another big surgery. I did not want to be on blood thinners the rest of my life if I could avoid it. So - it was a decision I immediately felt at peace with!
My surgery was on 10/6/21. It was a minimally invasive surgery and I was home the evening of 10/8/21.
Good luck to you. I will pray for your surgery and recovery. This site is full of stories and positive people who have been through something similar (or the same thing) or will be doing so shortly.

Colleen Fisher Thank you Holly. Our stories are so similar that it’s great to hear hospital stay was brief. Mine is also going to be minimally invasive so I hope to recover as quick as you. I like you didn’t want blood thinners so I’m getting the inspiris resilia valve that can be expanded down the road with a TAVR procedure when I need to cross that bridge. I’m hoping for a long time with this new valve though so we’ll see what the future holds. God bless you and thank you for the prayers.

J H Mattingly Colleen....thinking of you as your big day comes. Just know you will do great and the surgery will be over in a flash. Then all this anxiousness will be behind you and all your focus will be on your recovery. My surgery was 10 years ago and I could not be doing any better.
