Hi crystal, your story sounds just like mine. I'm 56 and went to cardiologist with my husband. Wanted him to get checked out as he just turned 60. We both had echos and mine came back bad. Severe aortic stenosis. It has been such a shock. Dr. Suspects bicuspid valve but difficult to see because of Calcified valve. I'm getting another echo and have seen a surgeon. They want to do this sooner than later. All so quick for me, but I understand this needs to get done. I have had a nagging cough for about 6-8 months which I thought was just post nasal but never went away. I was having some chest pain which I thought was from cough and breathlessness going up stairs. I thought it was from weight gain and just getting older. Putting all the pieces together now. Betsy

Crystal Whaley Oh Betsy. All of those symptoms you rationalized right out the door, so did I at the time. I am happy they have taken steps to fix your issue. It's a long road but a road you want to go down. I have discovered that the sternum pain in women are different than in men. I was afraid of not getting my range of motion back. It never left. It was slow getting my arms up, not able to get them back for a few days but I could wash my hair slowly at day 10. For some reason the sternum seems to be less painful for us. Thank goodness. Good luck with your surgery ma'am. Keep your head up and keep posting. It will give you something YOU can do when you feel you can do nothing.

Hi Crystal
I am 50 years old and had my surgery for bicuspid aortic valve replacement and aortic aneurysm on March 7th as well. I am returning to work next week for 2 days per week. I am worried about having the stamina to return to work so we will see how it goes. I started my first cardiac rehab this evening. Our healthcare system covers cardiac rehab once per week for 6 months. I found it very helpful to have an indivualized program which includes cardio plus resistance training. They started us by walking one mile on the track and depending trying to meet your active heart rate. Anyway wish you well in your recovery.,

Crystal Whaley Thank you Carolyn for your info. I appreciate the incite to what you are doing in cardiac rehab to see what I should be doing or able to do. I actually have been doing a lot more than that and I hope it hasn't been too much. I haven't had any repercussions so far from anything I've done. I will be getting my echocardiogram on June 12th to have a lookey loo for blood flow through the valves after surgery . I feel "pinches" sometimes at rest and by rubbing my skin on my chest it seems to stop. I'm hoping that's just my nerves waking up and finding their new connections . Good luck getting back to work.

Crystal Whaley No ma'am I haven't. My advice is to use the internet for information. Google valve repairs with mesh. If you had issue, it makes since to use mesh. They use mesh for abdominal , intestinal and many other tissue repairs.
