Congratulations on your successful surgery and thank you for your journal. My son is going to have the same surgical procedures in about a week. The aneurysm was an unexpected problem. It was encouraging to read your journal. I’m calm by nature but I do have to admit I’m a mixed bag right now. Your positive words have eased my mind and I will remember them. Blessings!

Just signed up for this newsletter and saw your story. Looks like I am headed for surgery and have somewhat the same diagnosis as you. My aortic root aneurysm is 4.6 at this time and BAV with stenosis. I basically feel fine. I am 67 and didn't know I had this until a few years ago after having an echo. Surprise! I too will have much prayer from friends and family. God will walk with me through this. It's just a tough recovery but now just getting my head wrapped around this since surgery is sooner than I had hoped. Not new to surgeries, though. Have had hysterectomy 21 years ago.
My surgery will take place at Walter Reed Military Hospital.
Good to see you are recovering well. Hope to hear from you for any advice.

Congratulations on getting through your surgery. I had the same surgery in August--valve replacement and Dacron graft for a 5.5. cm aortic aneurysm (just regurgitation; no stenosis) and these 5+ months later am better than new, over all sternum pain, swimming and hiking and biking. In retrospect it does not seem to be the ordeal that other people think it must have been, though the shock of having a "condition" when I thought myself supremely health took some getting used to! I hope your recovery goes smoothly. Best wishes.

Deb,
Dr Unai did my surgery on Dec 28th 2017 with the same valve and Dacron graft. I also had BAV with both stenosis and regurgitation and a 4.8cm ascending aortic aneurysm. I have had no complications what so ever and was very pleased with Dr Unai and the Cleveland Clinic. The anticipation of surgery was far worse than the recovery. Godspeed to you.

Deb... I am reading your story as I lay in my hospital bed after a successful AVR surgery this past Tuesday. I should be discharged tomorrow! My advice and guidance would be to have 100% confidence in your Surgeon and Medical Team; give them total control and you let go...literally! They do these surgeries all the time and they do them well!
Get a lot of rest today, tomorrow and Sunday before surgery. Get yourself mentality, spiritually and physically ready for Monday!
We are all here for you so lean on us! You are in our prayers... you will do fine!
Any questions you have please let me know!
Looking forward to your post op comments!
