Debbie Chatzky Hi Marjorie. My first OHS was a mitral valve repair and they went under the right breast. The valve developed scar tissue and panus tissue and became stenotic. This was in 1997. On May 31st I had the mitral valve replaced and had a full sternotomy. So the two surgeries had two different access points. Will you be having your second surgery accessing the same way?

Marjorie Murphy I am assuming that the second surgery will be accessing the same way since they will be replacing the aortic and mitral valve. I will be meeting with the surgeon for a second time the day before surgery. I wonder if the same access points make it more difficult?

Hi Debbie! Just saw your message and I would tend to think the Surgeons wouldn't have implanted a bovine valve if they didn't believe the valve to have a good life expectancy. It might be nice to think of her as being from a very young and very beautiful female Hereford! 💗💗

I told the eye doc that I just had surgery. The full exam was covered by OHIP here in Ontario Canada instead of coming out of my Green Shield benefits because of the post op symptoms. You may have benefits that cover it.

Hi Deb. I don’t have a reg to post yet. I had MV prolapse with severe regurgitate. I just had a mini Thor repair to my mitral. You said you had twitching and vision probs. I get the twitching all over my lower back, had that a long time. I’m sure it’s nerves. Meds have changed, twitches not. Vision... I had vision problems post surgery and I have migraines with aura for years. After surgery my vision was screwy, not my regular aura at all, more so in left eye. Went for full eye workup and found out I got a Roth’s Spot on my left eye from cardiac surgery. Broken blood vessel. Get your eyes checked.
Debbie Chatzky Thank you Aaron! I will pursue. Hope you are feeling well!
Susan Lynn Aaron - how long ago did you have your mini-thor?

Hi Debbie. The wedge pillow worked well prior to surgery, as elevating my head helped me feel like it was taking some of the pressure off of my chest. It took some getting used to at first but the night I got it, was the first night I actually slept through the evening. Once home, the pillow can continue to be used to help elevate you while you sleep or it can be flipped to help support your back when you are sitting up. I use it the second way and it has been a big help. I am fortunate not to have a lot of pain post-op but by the end of the day, a little support can go a long way. I hope this information helps and wish you the best with your healing.
