About Me (In My Own Words)
I am an American, originally from upstate New York, now living in England for the past 3 years, with my English husband. I was initially diagnosed with Mitral Valve Prolapse in my early 30's, but really had very few symptoms, except the occasional set of palpitations. A number of years later, in 2000, I flew from Boston where I lived and went to the Cleveland Heart Clinic and was able to have my own valve repaired. I had the "Cosgrove Ring" inserted and Dr. Cosgrove actually attended during the surgery. Now, almost 18 years later my regurgitation has gone from mild, to moderate and is now severe. I have also been told I have moderate tricuspid regurgitation. I currently live in England and based on my most recent Echo, my local cardiologist has said I must undergo another surgery, and the valve will either need to be repaired again, or if that's not possible, then it will need to be replaced. I am just having the first test done this week, the transesophegal echo, which will then be followed by the angiogram. I will then be referred to the hospital in London for the actual surgery. I'm a bit apprehensive this time around because more damage has been done to my heart over the years with the worsening regurgitation. At the same time, I am so thankful that something can be done. I will keep you posted and I am so very grateful for this wonderful website!!!
