I was just admitted tonight for surgery with Dr Gillinov on Thursday. I cannot believe how many wonderful things people have had to say about our surgeon.  I feel so fortunate to have Dr Gillinov as my surgeon.

Thinking of you. July 25th is the one year anniversary of my mitral valve repair (surgery in Tampa). I clearly remember the anxiety and racing  thoughts I experienced last year at this time. I found peace in my Mindfulness classes and truly believe it helped with my recovery. I had minimally invasive surgery through a right side thoracotomy. I still have some numbness, but heart is functioning great and I am back to bike riding, kayaking and swimming! Good Luck. Saying prayers for you!!

Hello Denise.  I had my mitral and tricuspid valves repaired by Dr. Gillinov at Cleveland Clinic in February 2022.  He is a fabulous surgeon and the nurses and other staff are amazing.  While you are probably a little nervous as you get closer to your day of surgery I can assure you that the hospital staff will keep you very comfortable and you are in good hands.  

Hi Denise - Best of luck on upcoming surgery. I am also facing a MVP and Cleveland is on the list as I sort options. How happy have you been with the triage process. (Assuming you are having robotic) Did you look at other programs in the eastern US?  Did you get Gillinov time before scheduling? Alex ... 

Hi Denise! I see you are scheduled for surgery with Dr. Gillanov at Cleveland Clinic. You will not be sorry! I had mitral valve repair on Feb. 24, 2023. You are very lucky to have found this site before your surgery. I wish I had found before or right around when I had it. Do not get discouraged by reading stories on the internet about being back up in two weeks. Hopefully you are one that only needs a few weeks to heal, but if not, there is nothing wrong with that. I had some issues during surgery (as Dr. Gillanov told my husband, "Some hearts just don't like to be touched" LOL) and ended up having to get an ICD implanted a week after my MV surgery. I had the "minimally invasive" robotic surgery but due to the complications, it took me about two months to finally start feeling human again. The surgery team and CC staff - everyone at the hospital could not have been more wonderful. I wish you the best and try not to stress too much before the surgery.
