Dorothy - By the time this gets to you, it'll be your surgery day. I'm a fellow nurse, and had my mitral valve repaired January 2015 by Dr Gillinov at Cleveland Clinic (I flew there from my home in Denver). Everything went very well, and I'm just so grateful to have be able to go to CC - the care was wonderful, and Dr G was exceptional. We nurses do tend to worry more in some ways, for sure, so I understand how you must've felt beforehand. But before you know it, you'll be on the road to recovery. Take care, and keep us posted. This site is a great support through hearing others' stories and knowing all of us have either already been there or are headed there soon. Heart surgery is a big deal, for sure, but when it's necessary, it gives us another chance at life. Best to you! Lenore M

Lenore Mitchell Dorothy, glad to hear your surgery went well and you're already 3 weeks out. That's great. I found that in between doing other things, it was really relaxing to use colored pencils in one of the many adult coloring books that are so popular now. I've gone on to try and learn more about drawing, since my skills are rudimentary, and that's also relaxing. Best to you, and good luck when you get far enough along to attend cardiac rehab.
DOROTHY CRAWFORD Does anyone know how long before I stop having swelling in my feet?
Vicki Eustice posted a note for DOROTHY that says:

Dorothy: You sound just like I did one year ago! I had a sub-aortic membrane. I had surgery on April 10th, 2015 at KU Medical Center. I had gone into congestive heart failure. I was mis-diagnosed 3 times before I got to KU! Thank God I did! I can't say the surgery is easy, but it was a life changing and saving! I had a pacemaker in that I just had removed 3 weeks ago due to a misdiagnosis. Again at KU. Please know, that surgery is the best thing for you if that is what they are recommending! Take care and keep us up to-date.
