Hey Elie! In response to your question regarding atrial flutter during recovery: a few of the docs looking after me recommended a life vest until they decided whether or not they were going to install a defib/pacemaker; however, other docs, including my surgeon didn't think it was necessary because I only had one episode of the atrial flutter. I ended up not going with the vest. It's 14 weeks since this episode and I haven't had any problems. I have another follow up appointment this month to conclude whether they recommend a defib/pacemaker but given the course of my recovery, I don't anticipate them making that recommendation.
They did say that if I had had multiple episodes or my ejection fracture didn't improve after the cardiac arrest (which it did) that I absolutely would have needed the device. There are a few factors at play when deciding on the device and I'd let the docs sort that out for your father. If they don't think it's necessary, I'd have trust in that decision because that's what they decided for me and it's all been good. Hope this helps :)
