Grace, we know what you’re going through. I had open chest surgery in 2008 to repair an ascending aortic aneurysm. I also have a bicuspid aortic valve that eventually will have to be replaced. Leading up to my surgery, and for a while post surgery, I was experiencing thousands of PVC’s every day. It was pretty unnerving and very annoying. I solved my problem (for the most part) by asking my doctor to switch me from beta blockers to a calcium channel blocker. You might want to look into that. But you are not alone! I’ve spent many a sleepless night because the palpitations wouldn’t calm down and let me sleep. You’ll be fine. As Adam says, “Keep on tickin!”
Grace Vega lol Thank you Gene. Your words are very encouraging.

Grace Vega Martha, I try talking to friends and family but no anyone that has actually had the same type of surgery. So needless to say, they listen but don't understand. I think that's why it feels lonely. But I celebrate the 98% f the time I feel great. That little ticking noise in my chest is a constant reminder that I'm not 100%, I try to ignore it sometimes but it's not easy.

Marie Myers I found that part of the recovery process was grieving the loss of my formerly “healthy self”. I never expected to have heart surgery, despite knowing I had a bicuspid valve. I hope you find a qualified health care provider to help you process your feelings. It can take some time. Wishing you all the best!

Grace Vega Thank you Leona. Yes, everyday is a good day. I definitely love my life, my family, and my friends. I'm a very lucky girl to be surrounded by so much support. You are very lucky to no have any issues. I've had at least 3 procedures to try to regulate my heart beat but all failed, so I'm in a AFib for about 4 years now. I'm good 98% of the time. I'm active and I'm almost always in great spirits.

Hi Grace, Welcome to this group. Glad you found us. My aortic valve replacement was 7 1/2 years ago. I'm 73 and try to keep somewhat active. I go to exercise class twice a week. I also have an irregular heartbeat (AFib) which can be scary. I take medication for it. I also have some other medical issues not related to the heart. Please reach out if you feel lonely. We are all here for you.

Grace Vega I feel the same. Most days I'm good but some days are scary. I'm 49 and I'm looking for work now and sometimes I wonder if I'm healthy enough to continue to do the work I normally do (Operations Manager). I don't exercise as much as I should. But I'm very active and try to stay on a low sodium diet. I'm a combination of proud and scared to have this disease and surgery. I'm glad that after 10 years I finally found a supportive community.
