Hi Hlengiwe, my name is Frances and I'm Cliff's wife. He just had surgery yesterday to replace his aortic valve and a part of his ascending aorta. My recommendation for you is to find out if only your aortic valve needs replacement and that the rest of your heart is fine. If that is the case, then you should try and find a surgeon that's able to do a minimally invasive surgery. That's what happened with my husband where the surgeon only needed to do a hemi sternotomy and not the full median sternotomy. I believe that's the main reason why he only had to spend 24 hours in the ICU before being released to a regular care hospital room.

Hi Hlengiwe and welcome to this website. Do some research online about aortic stenosis and valve replacement. You want to choose a good facility and doctor although I must admit I don't know anything about the health care in your country. Get a second opinion if you can. The surgery is no picnic in the part but it is very doable with fabulous results. Ask any questions you may have. God bless you.
