Welcome home James , welcome to recovery . I have a st.Jude’s mitral valve . Everything will start to improve , slowly but surely . Remember how great it felt the first time you had a shower post operatively ! Sleeping propped up with lots of pillows helps keep your chest wound in alignment . Eat and drink well and listen to your body . You are doing really well . Take things one day at a time . This lovely community is here to listen / to support your too .

Carla Golden I have a moderate aortic valve regurgitation with symptoms. I live in Kerrville Texas and am looking for a surgeon who does the less invasive surgery. Also, I am curious as to the difference between the surgery through the groin and the one through the ribs. Which is best? Thanks!

James, I had an AVR nearly two years ago now. All I can say is I wish I had known what it would be like because it wasn’t close to as bad as I imagined. All the best to you and what I would say is listen to your body rest when it tells you eat , sleep drink and rest when you feel like it. In just a few days there is an unbelievable difference in how you are.

You will do great, James. Honestly, waiting causes anxiety and it's the worst part of all of this. You will be completely unaware throughout the surgery. When it's over there is nothing left to do but follow the doctor's instructions and let your body heal. Prayers for peace of mind and a fast recovery. You have a lot of people cheering you on. Read what others have said. They are telling you the truth.

Hello James. My husband and I understand your anxiety. My husband, Jim, will be given a surgery date tomorrow I believe (it’s a follow-up cardiology appointmnet) and this will be his second surgery in just over 3 years. You can read our story and the update I posted. The upside of all of this is the fact we live in a time where heart issues, like all of those here, can be addressed. The surgery is very controlled now and the outcome very good! All the unknowns can drive us nuts so I do my best to pull myself back to the moment and take one day at a time, one step at a time. Hang in there. I will be sending prayers to you for a effortless surgery and speedy recovery.
