Hi Jamie, I would suggest having a couple of other opinions on the type of new valve you get if you are not thrilled with the idea of blood thinners. You can have two surgeries open if needed as long as the replacement valves are big enough can accommodate a TAVR after that. TAVR's are starting to get better and better life spans and hopefully by the time you would require one (after one or two open procedures) it would be even better. There is also the Ross procedure which many patients on this website have had, including Adam Pick!!! Just suggestions

Jamie Morrone I'm new to the site and saw some of your posts...did you have a tissue valve along with the bypass? Did you have an aneurysm (mine currently 4.1 measurement)? I know the surgeon said I wasn't a candidate for the Ross procedure...quite possibly why TAVR wasn't an option as well. Thank you for taking the time to post!

Pamela Gregory I was 55 and got a tissue valve and root replacement at the Cleveland Clinic. I did not have any blockages. Still might be worth a couple of other opinions. There is a hospital in New York too (Mt. Sinai) that does other options..

Grace Mason Jamie, I agree with Pamela. More than one opinion is a excellent idea. This is our heart after all. Some doctors/surgeons just prefer certain surgeries. I was 56 when I had my Ross procedure and replacement of my ascending aorta because of a 5.1 cm aneurysm(Mt Sinai in NYC❤️) Tissue valves are also used for many in their 50's, and beyond. Just something to think about if you have concerns about blood thinners with mechanical valves.
