Hi Leslie,
I am also scheduled for heart surgery (in Massachusetts) for January 24. I’ve been wondering if it will still happen, or if this latest surge of Covid will necessitate a change in surgery date.
I understand the “avoidance” of talking or thinking too much about the upcoming surgery. It can feel overwhelming at times. I feel fortunate in that I’ve never been very sick in my life and am relatively fit, so I think the chances for a good outcome are high. But up until the last couple of months, I’ve been able to live without medications or any kind of medical intervention and handing my health and body over to someone else or the medical establishment does scare me. I feel that it is my responsibility and that somehow I should be able to make it better, but it seems to possibly be a genetic thing. I need mitral valve repair or replacement and because AFib is a problem as well, the surgeon intends to do an ablation while they have me open.
Meditation has been helping with the fear and the feeling of being overwhelmed. I try to remind myself that whatever happens... everything will be fine. I’ve also continued with appointments with my “Network” chiropractor who does energy work and this also seems to help quite a bit with my “attitude” and mood.
I wish you all the best with your surgery and recovery,

Richard Munson Covid was raging last january when i had exactly what you are having at mass general in boston. No visitors during my week but it was fine. My wife dropped me off at the front door and amazon prime brought me home and left me on the back porch. Actually my wife brought me home. It will go well. Odds are you will get a repair. I had the maze for a fib and they said its called maze because that is what they create. They also had to replace some broken chords with gore tex line. They compared it to dental floss. Good luck on the 24th. My one year anniversary is the 20th.
