Hi Mike, if you can't find the "right" surgeon for yourself in the LA area, and have the time and money to travel to Seattle, I can recommend "the cream of the crop": my own surgeon Dr. Glen Barnhart at Swedish Medical Center. Dr. B. does everything possible to repair rather than replace a mitral valve. He's known for that (and that's what you should be finding out about *any* surgeon because you absolutely want your valve repaired if at all possible). When Dr. B. did my pre-op tests and I asked if he could repair my valve, he said he wouldn't know till he got in there. But then he added, "I've repaired worse than yours." And the first words he said to me after my operation were, "We repaired it." I do hope you find someone as good as Dr. B. in LA--but if you can't, please check him out.

Nancy Surprenant Takahashi Mike, will do, I see him again on 2/14 for a TEE then we will discuss afterward, I was told this today on the phone, he does surgeries everyday. I was happy to hear that, when picking a surgeon I've always heard you want someone that does this a lot. He does 100% robot, not sure if that matters to you. Good luck on your journey.
