So glad to read here that you're recovering well from your surgery, Mike. I wonder if your questions about weight loss are still relevant. ( I just noticed them now.) My experience was that prior to surgery, I was at an historically low weight. This was caused from increased anxiety and a corresponding marked reduction in my exercise regimen. I had always been active and fit, but had been directed by my doctors to significantly reduce my workouts, i.e, lifting, running, carrying during the several months of waiting for a surgery booking. The pandemic was and still is wreaking havoc on the scheduling of surgeries and health care in Canada. After my surgery I made a concerted effort to regain some weight while continuing to eat healthily. I'm now 9 months post-op, my weight is similar to what it always used to be, and my fitness and strength are continuing to make modest improvements. The weight loss, though, was especially disconcerting for me because I interpreted it as part of a general "enfeebling" of myself, a toll that the cumulative traumas of diagnosis, surgery, ageing and the pandemic were taking on me. Those feelings, for the most part, have lessened their grip. If you have some of those similar feelings, Mike, take some comfort in the belief that they will probably lessen and pass away as your recovery takes shape and time performs its mysteries.

Hey Mike, sorry, just now saw your questions posted to my driving photo. I am on baby aspirin and Metroprolol but not sure how long for. I go to see cardiologist at end of month and will find out more then. As for option of having mini-sternotomy, I discussed it with my surgeon and he advised against it (for various reasons). I knew it would mean a bit more healing and recovery, but I completely trusted him so opted for the full.
