Nancy, I wanted to thank you for the answer you posted to Kelly Stoll's journal. It has helped me immeasurably as I sit here trying to figure out what I am doing wrong that I cannot walk more than 15 minutes without having to lie down, and that I have no energy, and that I don't feel better than before the surgery. Who can say why some take longer to heal than others. I must remember that we are all on an individual journey and not a competition.
Thank you for your words of wisdom.
Nancy Surprenant Takahashi Anna, glad it helped, believe me I know the feeling. For me I feel worse than before my surgery since I had no symptoms before my surgery. Now after 3 months I still can't walk far, sleep, and remain in afib, AND I had a repair not even a replacement, why so much trouble.... We're not doing anything wrong, this was a big surgery, we're still healing.
I'll be watching for your post as you get stronger and figure out what is working for you. :)

Rita Savelis I remember my surgeons before OHS telling me that it would be a LONG time before I felt better, before I wasn't tired all the time. They would not give any more specific time frame. Afterwards, I was thankful for the honesty because then I did not feel like I was such an oddball amongst patients who got their energy back faster than I did. It was a year before I started to feel slightly energetic again.
Take care.

Kelly Stoll Anna, I had so many thoughts like that at the beginning of my recovery and even as you know continuing now. I recall my first day of rehab watching a gentleman in his 80's on the treadmill, flabbergasted because I was no where close to doing what he could do and I didn't think I ever would be. On Tuesday, I saw a recent OHS watching me on the treadmill and looking a little awestruck. I walked over and chatted and in the end I simply said "Hang in there. Dont compare. We all have our own process. I wish you the best."
We do all have our own journey to travel. Each of us have our own battles along that journey. In the end though, we also have the people here, the people in our lives, and the world at large to turn to for support. I personally am very thankful that through all of this, we have each other.

Janet Skinner Yes. Wise advice. It has taken me ten months to feel like I have enough energy to be more active. There were so many complications for several months after my surgery; then I realized that my journey was mine alone and it didn't help my recovery to compare this journey to the 'quick recover-ers', I I still get tired and I take rests and even a nap if I need it.
You'll get there. Just be patient and be kind to yourself.

Rose Madura Yes, the best advice is that is is a personal journey. We all will heal at our own pace. I used to read these people who walk 5 miles a day within a few weeks and such and it used to bother me that I couldn't. But I finally realized that this isn't a contest, it is a very personal journey. I hope you fell much better soon Anna and everyone else who is struggling right now.

Nancy Surprenant Takahashi Hi Susan, I just looked and noticed and have wondered how'd I'd feel. Wasn't as bad as i thought when I saw it. I then looked for your name and thought...ok, she hasn't pulled out. Wishing you well and all the best and will be thinking of you.

Charlotte Dowd Ha! I was just thinking about that earlier today in one of my daydreams-- I heard myself asking myself, "what if I get up to a few days before and pull out." Mine is the week after your so , if you and Susan hang in there, I can too! LOL...
Nancy Surprenant Takahashi Charlotte I've been trying to think of a logical reason not to do this since January but have not been able to come up with one. I even tried to convince my surgeon, that didn't work out so well for me either. I told my cardiologist what I tried with the surgeon and he laughed, LOL. If I can come up with anything that makes sense not to do this I'll let you know, otherwise I guess I'll you both on the other side of recovery.... haha -
Best of luck with your surgery.

Nancy Surprenant Takahashi I was given another name of someone here in Torrance, CA I couldn't find much about him and that's why I went with Doctor Trento. When I called my Cardiologist to give him the name of the Doc the nurse said to me "you made the right choice'. I don't want to say i know what was in her head but I felt she was trying to let me know something.

Mike Joo i heard dr. Trento, he's at Cedars hospital. i was try to find him under my insurace (aetna HMO), he was not list it. if you don't mind, did you see him with insurance? what type of insurance do you have or does he accept?
Nancy Surprenant Takahashi Sorry just getting to your request now, my kitty cat passed away today and I was at the vet. From what i can see he does accept Aetna HMO, i think your cardiologist needs to refer you to him. Here is where I found what insurance he accepts. Copy and paste the link below in your browser.
Julie schedules his appointments her direct number is 424.315.2394. I find she is very busy so you may have to leave a message but she does call you back and is very nice. She has always answered all of my questions.

Hi Nancy
Know how you feel . I had to have my Aortic Valve replaced just over 8 weeks ago , calcium score was 2 and heart was perfectly healthy apart from a bicuspid Valve that had its day. We did all the healthy things ! plant based diet - hiking on a regular basis - living the good life. Fortunately for me getting this done while I was in good shape has been very positive. At the same time frightening!!!
But all the good things you have been doing will be your allies now. Good luck Nancy .
Nancy Surprenant Takahashi Thank you for your support, I guess I need to look at this being in good health other than a bad part it gives me the best chance of getting back to normal. Hope you're doing well now and will be back to hiking.
I'll be watching for your post as you get stronger and figure out what is working for you. :)
Take care.
