So happy you are doing so well! Just wanted to let you know I had an AVR done in 2009 and I, too, decided on the On-X valve and I have done remarkably well. It took some time to get use to taking Coumadin and learning what veggies to eat and not eat, but it eventually worked out well. I pray all continues to go in the right direction.

Rob, Congratulations on your pick of surgeons. I too was from Ft. Wayne growing up. Dr. Gerdisch did my redo of aortic valve with rigid fixation after full sternomy and I did a 5k 30 days later. He and his staff are the greatest. It took 3 months to get to that point on the first full sternomy with wire sternum reconnection. Three and one half years later still doing 7mi. on treadmill 4 days a week. At 72 there was still hope for this old fart thanks to Dr. Gertisch and staff and the great people at Franciscan Hospital. Speedy recovery :)

Hi Rob, Welcome to our community! Great to have you here. I'm hopeful you will find a lot of great information at our website about the different types of valves for aortic valve replacement specific to your bicuspid valve.

As you probably already know, the two main options are mechanical and tissue valves. Within those categories are several different options.
