Scott, you are not alone in being apprehensive or suffering depression. You have fellow soul mates here. As for a support system, you may probably be discharged from the hospital to a rehab facility until you get on your feet. And then have home visits from nurses and aides afterwards. This is something you should bring up in your discussions. I think the hospital will be very proactive that you get appropriate post op care.

Marie Myers Do you have good neighbors or co-workers? I got a lot of support from both. I had my husband at home to take care of me, but no other family close by. The neighbors and co-workers helped with rides, food, and occasional dog-sitting. Don't be afraid to ask; most people are happy to help!

Hi Scott, Welcome to the community, I am certain you will find many who can give you cause for optimism. I caught on to your reference to depression, and can relate to that. I'm a relative newcomer here having had a recent introduction to the world of valve repair/replacement so cannot contribute from personal experience. However I can encourage you to ask as many questions here as you like, there will be many in a position to help.
