Susan:
I just celebrated a year after surgery and the elevated heart rate seems to have subsided/resolved. I did not find any literature to indicate/support an elevated heart rate after mitral valve repair. I also followed up with the Cleveland Clinic Cardiologist and he did not indicate any literature about the condition
I reviewed the condition with my cardiologist. He did check to ensure there was no issue with my thyroid. My cardiologist also did not place me back on metoprolol since my blood pressure was in the normal range.
I did go to a sleep specialist to ensure there were no apnea issues.
I also attended a seminar discussing EP and diagnosis put on by Missouri Baptist Hospital and it did not seem to fit my symptoms. There is no loss is having a physician consult.
My tachycardia seems to be resolving but I would not discourage you from speaking to your physicians about the condition. I empathize with your husband in that the tachycardia can be annoying when you are accustomed to a lower heart rate. My personal experience was healing and return to my normal strength took a longer time than expected. I do not know a lot about the aortic valve surgery/replacement and if it has alternative symptoms.
My heart rate today was 72 but typically is now in the 80's which may provide some encouragement to you and your husband that it may just take some time. Hope this is of help.
