Thanks for the input. It is really appreciated. I am at the cottage right now and I think I’ll just have another glass of wine - lol. I haven’t talked to the surgeon yet about recommended valve. My cardiologist seems to think tissue is best for me. I’m relieved the “wait” period is over but now the new wait period begins. Getting the angiogram is a little worrying but like most things imagination is far worse than reality. I was severe asymptomatic for a long time. Hoping the surgery will give me my energy back. So great that this site is available.

Susan Stroud Hi Jennifer. I had an angiogram in 2013 and did not feel a thing. I did get Afib temporarily from it....but meds resolved that. My next angiogram is on Wed and then a nuclear CT scan , end of Aug. Then the decision : reop or TAVR.
The Edwards Inspire Résilia valve sounds great- I am so grateful for Adam Pick bringing us all together to help each other. Enjoy the cottage. That is exactly what we have done. Up at the lake, too !!

Susan Stroud I am in Toronto. I had AVR in 2013. My valve has failed due to calcification and now I am preparing for a reop ( depending on scar tissue ) or TAVR. My advice would be that your surgeon use a mesh .....as was mentioned in a comment here....then the scar tissue cannot attach to the heart.

Susan Stroud I have a St. Jude porcine valve. Yes,, very disappointed as it should have lasted 15-20 years. No answers as to why it didn’t. It has calcified and I wonder if the reop valve might do the same......

Diane Maher You might want to look at a different tissue valve this time. My Victoria surgeon very carefully went over the two kinds of valves he only uses, why and the flaws with others....the On-X mechanical and the Edwards bovine tissue. I know a couple of member’s (including John Lant) have recently received the recently approved Edwards Inspire Resilia aortic valve which is even suppose to last longer because of the calcium resistant materials used. This latest valve has also received approval in Canada.
Susan Stroud Oh Diane thank you so much for the information. Thanks so much !!

timothy morris For me the breathing tube was the worst part of the process. I just had awful gagging and they kept using suction to clean out saliva this went on for five hours. I seem to be in the minority when it comes to the breathing tube. I hope you have a much easier time of it.
