Hello Tracy,
I live in Canada also.
With your symptoms, I would most certainly go to emergency and make certain that the hospital physician understands how urgent this matter is. Give a full account of ALL your symptoms and get a thorough assessment. Ask who could advise you of the status of your surgery date. It has been my experience that the physician's receptionist frequently provides a lot of information. Keep calling!
Another suggestion would be to book an urgent appointment with your family physician and inform them of your symptoms, how this is affecting your general health and ask for help to get information. They should be an advocate for you and call the appropriate department to see if/when your surgery date is booked.
My experience was totally different. My family physician sent an urgent referral to a cardiac surgeon, based on the results of the ECHO. The surgeon advised me that the date for surgery would be booked by hospital coordinator (a nurse) so I called that person, more than once, to get a firm date for surgery. Did get "bumped" to a later date, due to more urgent in-hopsital cases, but that is understandable.
