Barbara Helen Dance Hi Nancy, thank you for your lovely message. You ask how old I am ......66 (on April 14th 2017). I think I shall feel a lot better when,i begin my cardio rehab in groups. I do all the exercises, but look forward to seeing how far others have reached??. I am glad I have had the surgery....... but as a very independent( normally!!) person, I expect a lot of myself sometimes, too much.. I have a lovely daughter and two sons, who help me too see the humour in things, (just as your little granddaughter does...😊). My eldest son I back home for a while, and is very attentive. My daughter is busy too, but we catch up often on the phone and visits. Last week , I managed to attend her graduation at Oxford University......I dressed up, dosed up, and even managed to have a drink of Champagne!!!!. worth every minuite. I needed the next day to recover. My doctor told me today that my blood tests on Monday, show I am anaemic, and also my body is fighting low level infection, which is apparently normal for someone who has just had such extensive surgery........ so I. DÔNT feel quite so bad now!!! 😐xxxx

Nancy James Thank you for your kind words Barbara - you're very kind. My oldest daughter lives in Raleigh but she is going to come up when I have the surgery and stay with me a few weeks if needed afterwards. I have one other daughter who herself is disabled and in a wheelchair, so she can't help me, but 2 other daughters will be around and can go to the store for me or run errands. I'm so grateful for my girls - and my husband is wonderful. He's as scared as me - we never ever talked about anything happening to me in the 49 years we have been married - he's the one who has had some things happen, I've been healthy all my life except for some minor stuff...but I know between him and my beautiful daughters and grandkids I will be in excellent hands. God bless.

Barbara Helen Dance Hi Nancy,I am finding that my two sons and daughter ( and daughters boyfriend) are actually enjoying all that goes into my ' convalescence' and beyond, haha. Its hard going at times...... this weekend having been not so good, but I do have an apt with m G.P, tomorrow. I think there may be some infection, ......which has not cleared up. They thought I was fighting ît myself with my white platelets, however, having had two separate high temp's of 101.2, and 101.6,, I think they are going to give me oral or i.v antibiotics?????, On Wednesday, this week, I am due to start my first Cardio Rehab, but unless I feel a whole lot better, it shall post pone that. for a bit longer.... I hope you'd and your family are keeping well,, you sound a lovely family, and so very close. They are a great comfort at times like this, and while we sometimes feel strange to let them, take over the reigns so to speak.....I think they love to be able to return your love in such an important and tangible way. My love to you all, Barb, xxxxx

Nancy James Hey Barb - Sorry to hear about the infection - I guess that's the one thing I fear that something will happen that will make convalescence take longer than I hope it will. I don't just sit around and I get cabin fever after 2 days so this is going to be a very interesting journey for me...I know I will drive everyone around me crazy! I know it will take time, but the one thing that I am really looking forward to is being able to take long walks without getting winded, or walking up a hill - that's murder on me.....but my favorite thing to do is bike. We have some wonderful bike trails here in Lynchburg and after biking for over 20 years - I had to give it up because of a family situation and then this year I had toe surgery March 24 and a torn meniscus of my right knee so I had a hard time walking at all or I limped everywhere. The knee is feeling better since it's been since March so perhaps I won't have to have the scope surgery on the knee after I heal from the heart surgery. I am looking forward to feeling the wind through my hair again but it will probably be more like next summer right now - but at least it is a goal and that will keep me focused on my future.
Family is really important during times like this....we are having a big dinner with all my gang on Sunday before I leave for Charlottesville on Monday - their support means everything.
