About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed with BAV when I was a teenager. The valve became stenotic last year and surgery was recommended., I did a lot of research and learned about the Ross Procedure -- most encouraging was that it is the only aortic valve replacement procedure that puts you back on the normal popular curve with normal life expectancy. I looked at various Ross specialist centers and decided on UCSF. Dr. Boskovski was great -- he is a relatively high volume Ross provider and he has studied with the world's leading experts on Ross. It is really his passion,. In surgeries with Dr. Boskovski, in most cases his partner is Dr. Elaine Tseng, who is also an eminent Ross surgeon. It is quite rare to have two procedural experts in a single operation. This gave me some confidence. My surgery went very well. I was out of the hospital in a week and fully recovered in 4 months and back to normal activities in 6 months (as in, running 5 miles, surfing, hiking). I had a great experience at UCSF -- the cardiac sugery and cardiac ICU staff were excellent. Dr. Boskovski is accessible and open -- he answered every question I had quickly and with a really straight answer. I am very happy with my outcome and recommend him and UCSF highly.
