About Me (In My Own Words)
Back in. 2004, I went for a routine check for my under active thyroid, the Dr found I had a murmur and was referred to my Cardiologist. Following an Echocardiogram, it was found I had a 'leaky' Mitral valve. I wasn't put on any medication , but was given annual echo's , and follow ups . Fast forward to 2yrs ago, when symptoms meant I was referred for a Cardiac Ablation for extra SVT's, I was told this solve my palpitations for a year or two. However, 6 months later saw me having a repeat Ablation , but this time no SVT's were found , but I did go into Atrial Fibrillation from which they couldn't remedy, without using the defib, to shock me back into normal rhythm!!! . I was sent home on Flecanaide and Warfarin.( for life). Last January, I saw my Cardiologist again, and this time he said Surgery was likely, but he would do an Angiogram on 30th March to rule out any need for bypass surgery.......... so I just have to have Aortic Valve Replacement.... repair isn't an option. My echo showed a peak Aortic valve gradient of 73 mm.Hg, a mean aortic valve gradient of 49 mm Hg. My an E.C.G showed sinus Rhythm rate of 93 with a QRS of 90 msec. My Coronary Angiogram showed a significantly calcified aortic valve with poor excursion and moderate post stenosis aortic valve root dilation. Circulation was Rt side dominant, and the right coronary entirely normal. The left coronary was not properly engaged. There was mild plaque in the mid LAD. My Cardiologist said that as my right side is carrying the left side at the moment it was unlikely that the Surgeon will do any repair to the mitral valve at this time. I was sent home on Amiodarone, because of my progressive angina, and taken off the Flecanaide. At pre.op , I saw the Surgeon and had a battery of tests, which have all come back acceptable, but my thyroid levels were up. So I am having an aortic valve Replacement / with Mechanical valve. My Warfarin went haywire when I went on the Amiodarone, but now almost within its correct limit. My bloods are being repeated next week to recheck my Warfarin and Thyroid levels....... and so I wait...... for Independence Day....... ironic really..... given that my body will be working independently of my heart for at least an hour........... with 'normal' service resumed as soon as possible... haha!!!ππ.
