About Me (In My Own Words)
I am currently 64 and retired. I was diagnosed with aortic valve regurgitation about 15 years ago. It was uncovered during a routine physical exam. Since then, I have been having periodic echocardiograms to track the status of the disease.
The time has come, however, as my heart has increased in size to the point where valve replacement surgery is required.
I now have an April surgery date and am currently undergoing pre-surgery tests including chest CT scan, carotid Doppler, and (next week), a cardiac catheterization. So far, the test results have been fine and if they find my coronary arteries have no significant blockage, I am a candidate for a simple valve replacement using a mini sternotomy. Fingers crossed!
