About Me (In My Own Words)
I was born with a heart murmur and even completed my compulsory military service when I was 17 years old, I have had regular check ups throughout my life, although not as often as I probably should have. I have had no real issues with my heart up until 2 months ago when my doctor sent me to see a Cardiologist after a routine EGC during July of 2022. My Cardiologist then followed up with a sonar ECG and found that I had mild to severe Aortic stenosis and would probably require surgery in the next year or so. My cardiologist then referred me to a highly recommended Cardiothoracic Surgeon in Sydney for further investigation, as my wife and I were planning to walk the Portuguese Comino during 2023. We then had my first consultation with a great Australian surgeon who gave my wife and I plenty of advice and advised us to postpone any long distance walking until further notice and then recommended to send me for a CT coronary Angiogram at the Royal North Shore Private hospital in Sydney. Unfortunately they found a large Aneurysm in my aortic artery and sent me for an urgent angiogram the following week. The results showed a large Aneurysm but no blockages in my heart and immediately started working on a surgery date... so next week it is (06 Sept). The family are all a bit nervous but I am keen to get the operation done and work out the next steps to recovery. Any advise on past experiences and or tips would be appreciated and hoping to be back to work in the next 8 weeks or so. This website and videos have helped me greatly to better understand this disease (thanks heaps Adam) and prepare myself for the future and life long management of my heart.
