About Me (In My Own Words)
About 1.5 years ago, through a routine exam, my Dr. heard a murmur. From there I was referred to a cardiologist where through echos it was discovered that I have a bicuspid valve. Since that point, my regurgitation has worsened every six months or so. I just recently had a heart cath to help my cardiologist determine how severe the leak is getting, and unfortunately it is now moderate-severe. I am meeting with him in a few weeks to further discuss surgery options, it needs replaced within three months.
I'm not sure where I'm at with everything. That's a common question I have been getting and I can't even answer it without tearing up. I have known that this time would come, but that didn't seem to help me prepare for the news. I'm trying to stay positive, but naturally I tend to focus on the "what ifs" of situations which ultimately leads to more stress and anxiety, so it is definitely a challenge. Coming across this community and reading so many stories that sound so similar to mine has been comforting to me, and I hope to document my journey as well.
