About Me (In My Own Words)
Well, my story began in 2022 when during a routine physical my family doctor noticed a sound in my chest, the murmur!
That is when I was sent just to get it checked with an echocardiogram.
A few days later the phone rings and it was the cardiologist, turns out that I have a bicuspid aortic valve. I was very surprised. I am active but didn’t think I had symptoms but thinking back it was possible I did and do. I just chalked up things like slowing down and needing more breaks to getting older.
Ok, so like probably like many of you time to get bloodwork and test after test. See the surgeon he advised to just be monitored. So that’s what we did.
In the meantime, I started research and found the procedure called The Ross. Wow this sounded right down my alley since I am active in my spare time with hockey and cycling.
Fast forward to January 2024. I really wasn’t pleased with the surgeon my cardiologist sent me to, not that he may not have been good but 1) because they didn’t do the Ross and 2) because I just didn’t feel comfortable or at ease there. That is an important factor to me, you need to feel comfortable with your surgeon and with the staff.
So, my cardiologist referred me to a surgeon that happens to be in our city that I have been researching (maybe stocking LOL) and has many years of experience doing the Ross.
We met him and wow what a difference in how I felt just speaking with him with some of my family with me. We went over options ect.
So the test have begun one more to go before the next appointment and hopefully get a date to start a new chapter and literally get back on the bike to good health and a good ticker.
