About Me (In My Own Words)
I was born with a heart murmur and in my 40's I developed supraventricular tachycardia. I started having episodes of the SVT more often once I got into my 60's.
I had my first echo 4 years ago, at which time my aortic valve had mild stenosis. Two years later the second echo showed moderate stenosis and then the third one year later showed severe stenosis.
Since I am 69 yrs old, the surgeon has said the best choice for me would be a minimally invasive surgery called minithoracotomy intead of TAVR or the open heart surgery. He said the surgical biosprosthetic valves can last up to 20 years in comparison to the TAVR valves lasting 7 years.
I am happy to get this surgery so that I will be able to walk longer without getting out of breath and having to rest. I also have trouble sleeping without propping myself up with alot of pillows because I would wake up with my heart racing if I lay flat. I'm nervous about the surgery and am hoping this group will help me overcome that by reading their stories.
