About Me (In My Own Words)
I had serious heart arrythmias in 2010 which were treated with ablation, medications and a pacemaker. All the cardiac testing fortunately led to the discovery that I had a bicuspid aortic valve and an aortic aneurysm. So began 8 years of watchful waiting which has now come due. While my aneurysm is not a major concern, my valve is severely stenotic and moderately to severely regurgitant.
I was happy to find Adam's videos among all the YouTube videos I was watching. From there I found this site and using recommendations on the site and some other hospital/doctor ratings I settled on Mt. Sinai Hospital and Dr. Allan Stewart. I was thrilled to not only get a quick first appointment, but also to get a surgery date within two weeks.
I will be having a bioprosthetic valve replacement and an ascending aorta graft on 5 Feb. I am totally at ease with the procedure, Dr. Stewart and Mt. Sinai. The recovery and after affects do have me a bit concerned, but mostly because of the uncertainty.
I have hopes to feel better and become more active than I have been.
12/23/20 I had (to me) a trouble-free procedure. Recovery was slow, steady and ever improving. Cardiac rehab got me moving again and gave me confidence in my ability to work out and improve my life. I continued with a personal trainer 2x/wk and continued to gain strength, balance and fitness. Small setback in Covid-19 in that I couldn’t go to the gym. Hoping to get myself working out myself. Happy to chat with anyone with questions
