About Me (In My Own Words)
In 2010 it was discovered that I have BAV (bicuspid aortic valve) and a Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm. I became a "wait & see" patient, having tests and watching to see if the aneurysm grew or valves changed.
In February 2013 after continually passing out and a coupe ICU stays (one on what was supposed to be my wedding day), I was diagnosed with Symptomatic Bradycardia and implanted with a single lead pacemaker.
In July 2014 after a fairly uneventful but high risk pregnancy I gave birth to a beautiful and healthy 7 lb 13 oz baby boy. Three days later I was rushed to the emergency room and then admitted twice with congestive heart failure due to fluid overload.
During the past 1 1/2 years my valves have showed more stenosis and regurgitation. Aortic insufficiency and pulmonary hypertension, though still mild-moderate, have increased. Thankfully my aneurysm has only grown slightly larger.
As of now, I am still a "wait & see" patient, but my local cardiologist has said the time has come to begin thinking about surgery in the next 1 to 2 years, if not earlier. I will meet with a surgeon probably after the holidays to discuss what is next in this journey.
