About Me (In My Own Words)
I interviewed several hospitals to repair my mitral valve and selected Dr. Guy and his team due to the minimally invasive procedure with robotics. I joined this group two weeks after my surgery - but I used Adam Picks site extensively to assist in the selection of a surgeon. I am a 58 year old male in good shape prior to surgery and signed up for the St Jude's Marathon in Memphis, TN in December 2017 as incentive to get back into shape. My recovery was not a slam dunk - I was kept in ICU for four nights since my blood pressure was averaging 85/60 and they thought it was too low to go into a step down unit - or it was an excuse because they did not have any step down units available :) but I was released from the hospital directly from ICU after the fourth night. Being home was a godsend and away from all of the noise, chatter and constant check ups from the ICU staff - which were wonderful - but there is nothing better than being home and getting some rest. I had some issues during recovery including a short bout with Afib, excessive site tube drainage, a severe body rash with an itch and lymphocele in the groin area where they inserted the heart lung machine - but I am writing this five weeks post op and continue to take one day at a time.
