Today was exactly five weeks from my robotic mitral valve repair by Dr. Guy in NYC. I highly recommend getting the Nike Run App to track your post op walking progress. I would like to get back to running but it bounces my chest too much in the areas where the robotics arms were inserted and is very uncomfortable. I walked a half mile daily for the first week after surgery at a 32 minute mile pace and was tired when I finished. I built my distance up about a mile every week, not too concerned about speed - just being out for a walk felt good. Today I pushed a little and did eight miles at a 14,2 minute mile pace and felt good afterwards. I walked the halls of the hospital the day after my surgery and would highly recommend walking and doing deep breathing while you walk and charting it with a phone app or manually, to anyone on their road to recovery.

Steve Farthing Kenneth - great progress report. I can relate to how uncomfortable even a tshirt is sometimes at 5 weeks. But at 10 weeks, no problem.

Kenneth Hart Thanks Steve - that is good to know. I thought of wrapping my chest in an ace bandage and try running but I think that is pushing it. Sometimes our brains are ahead of our bodies and we need to listen to what our body needs in the recovery process. Five weeks have gone quick - and perhaps in 10 weeks I will also be more comfortable in a tshirt!
Gerald Poulton Good thinking, it hurts for a reason, good to pay attention to what your body is telling you 👍
