About Me (In My Own Words)
I am a 67 year old grandfather of 3yo twins girls, living in the Madison, WI area. My granddaughters are the love of my life and we take care of them one day each week, plus overnights with grandma and grandpa. Not being able to lift them after surgery will be one of the hardest things I will face!
UW Health in Madison has been monitoring my bicuspid stenotic aortic valve and aortic aneurysm for 2 years, and my surgeon (Dr. Andreas de Biasi) is now recommending that I proceed with aortic valve replacement and repair of my aortic aneurysm. My surgery is scheduled for November 30, 2023. I am deciding between a tissue valve and a mechanical valve, strongly leaning toward a bovine tissue valve. Surgery will be done via a full median sternotomy.
Update: Received a clean cardiac catheterization and dental clearance. I've decided on a bovine tissue valve.
Update: 12/7/23
Successful replacement of my aortic valve with the Edwards Inspiris Resilia bovine tissue valve was completed on November 30, 2023 at University of Wisconsin University Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. My aortic aneurysym was also repaired with a dacron sleeve. Surgery was uneventful and I was released on Monday, Dec 4, after a four day stay in ICU/stepdown.
