About Me (In My Own Words)
I am a healthy, active 41 year old mother of two wonderful children, working full time in a corporate environment. On March 15 2021, I started experiencing heart palpitations and an unusual awareness of my heartbeat. After a few appointment reschedules, I saw my primary doctor on April 22 - she heard no murmur, the EKG was normal, however I knew that something was wrong. She sent me to a cardiologist (similar to Dr. Bad Bedside Manner) on May 27 who was sure it was benign but ordered a holter monitor and an echo, which was performed on June 18. July 8 I met with his NP (doctor never had the decency to follow up with me personally) who told me that I have bileaflet mitral valve prolapse with a severe centrally directed jet, severe dilation of my left atrium and would need urgent surgery (!!). I was in complete shock and was referred to a surgeon. After meeting him briefly on July 20, he told me I would need a TEE to determine severity and urgency, which was performed on Aug 4. I will never forget the doctor waking me up to say, "this is very severe and you will need surgery". Another appointment with the surgeon on Aug 17, and then ultimately a second opinion appointment with Dr Doolabh on Aug 23. I am scheduled for surgery on Sep 30, more than 6 months from the first onset of my symptoms. Praying for a repair, expecting a replacement.
