I’m home! Surgery went very well. 2 hours, and the surgeon said it was a “textbook” repair. I had a lot of nausea coming out of anesthesia which set me back a bit, dealing with dehydration and trying to find the right balances of medication. All in all, great experience and now I’m on the road to recovery. Thank you all for your prayers and support!

Heading to UTSW today for pre-op testing! Actually glad it’s all finally happening. My mom will accompany me today. She received a Mitral Valve repair from the legendary Dr. Bruce Lytle at Cleveland Clinic 7 years ago via her sternum. Turns out this thing is hereditary! I’m so happy to have her support and a praying for an equally successful and even quicker recovery than she had.

Jose Villarreal Lauren! You are in great hands with Dr Doolhab and UT Southwestern. The whole process for me was seamless. His team made me feel that these procedures while serious are quite routine and it sure turned out that way. Some anxiety is normal but you will see once the surgery is behind you your recovery will be quick and it will be behind you in no time. The nurses and staff are all top notch. If that chest tube hurts don't be brave and ask for pain medication on time. For me the pain went away 2-3 hours after the chest tube came out the next evening after surgery. I did not need pain medication after that. I am on day 19 post top and back at work part time and walking daily. You got this. Will be thinking positive thoughts for you on the 30 th. God Bless!! You will be fine."

Scott Kinghorn Best of luck. I'm sure you'll do great. This is the hardest part. I still can't believe I went and had OHS. The anxiety and fear are normal but you'll be fine. These Teams know what they're doing. In a month you'll be like. I did all that worrying for what. Lol

Will pray for your surgery to be successful and your recovery smooth. God bless you

Today is my birthday and T-1 week from surgery. Anxiety is fairly high at the moment!
