G'day from Australia. Thank you to this site for your stories. It helped me tremendously on the tough days earlier in my recovery. I had minimally invasive mitral valve repair 10 months ago but still struggle with mild fatigue that becomes severe fatigue which comes and goes. I'm otherwise fit and healthy and was before the surgery. I'm 48 so find this really challenging given I'm this far down the recovery road. My cardiologist says my heart is happy and I've tried a number of natural therapies and had every blood test under the sun and they all come back normal. Has anyone else struggled with this?

Susan Lynn Yes! Tracy - I also had minimally-invasive mitral valve repair and felt 95% recovered in the first few weeks, however, that last 5% - specifically the fatigue - lingered for a long time. I found that a quick nap in the afternoon really helped. If you're taking medication, like Metoprolol, it may be the cause of your fatigue. Hang in there - better days are ahead!
Marie Myers Just a thought, but could the fatigue be related to the beginning of menopause?

Rita Savelis I get "severe" fatigue when I do too much, or sometimes for no reason. It takes a LONG time to recover from OHS. Plus there is getting older and all these other things that come into play. And one is so aware of how one feels. And then there are side effects from meds.... I'm 6 years out from heart surgery but never feel like I'm far down the road away from it. I feel good most of the time but my heart has been through a lot. Take care.
