About Me (In My Own Words)
My story started back in May 2023. I was diagnosed with mild mitral valve regurgitation after having Afib for some time. My symptoms were mostly asymptomatic, except for shortness of breath. I was supposed to have surgery in August, but due to me turning 65 in October, we decided to wait till I could get the insurance situated. Still having apprehensions (terrified) lol, because I am a wuss when it comes to pain, along with the research I had done, I put it off until after the holidays and the cold weather. I tend to be cold natured. So the date was set for the end of February. And it was cancelled due to an emergency operation my Dr had to preform. At the time I felt like I dodged a bullet. I wasn't mentally ready. Then, the new date was in March, then April, then May, May 16th, but I received a call this morning saying there has been another emergency operation and we have to reschedule. I totally understand the situation, but this has been an emotional roller coaster for me. I am apprehensive about the recovery since I live alone and don't really have anyone who can come help. I have researched skilled nursing facilities for post op recovery and already have my belongings packed since Ive gotten ready for this for a few months now. I am so grateful for this community, I have some support, but no one that has gone through this who can give me helpful tips and tricks. I appreciate all the help I can get.
