About Me (In My Own Words)
I was born with congenital mitral stenosis which wasn’t diagnosed at first. I had mitral valve repair (OHS) in 1990, aged 2. I was a relatively healthy child, played sports etc and didn’t really ever feel like I was sick. I started getting symptoms at 18 but ignored them as I was working and at college and put it down to doing too much. My symptoms worsened and I have to have the mitral valve replaced (with a St. Jude titanium) in 2009 aged 21. Another OHS. I have been incredibly healthy since then and other than the warfarin am living a completely normal life. My valve is in 10 years this year and it’s the first time I’ve started to worry about what is to come.
