About Me (In My Own Words)
In March of 2016, at the age of 59 yrs old, I was diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic valve. My surgery date was April 12, 2016. At a regular check-up my Dr. heard a bruit in my left carotid artery. He sent me for a carotid ultrasound which was normal. I then had an EKG which was abnormal. I was then scheduled for a stress echocardiogram. After just a few minutes the technician called in the cardiologist and my husband. I was told I would not be getting on the treadmill and 2 days later had a TEE. The next week I had a cardiac catheritization which showed surgery needed to be sooner than later. In 2 days I was at the cardiac surgeon's office. He explained my situation saying my aortic valve was a bicuspid valve with critical stenosis and regurgitation. Open heart surgery was then scheduled for April 12, 2016. I would be getting a beautiful tricuspid bovine 4th generation valve. Dr. Charles Wyatt assured me saying, "I can fix that," and he did.
