My GP heard my heart murmur about 5 years ago (I was about 56) and sent me to a cardiologist, Dr. Suzanne Wetherold. Since then I have been getting echocardiograms every 6 months. I have been holding steady with moderately severe regurgitation of the mitral valve until January of this year. At that time, the echo showed severe regurgitation, and I was referred to the surgeon, Dr. Faraz Kerendi. We scheduled surgery for April 4.
Currently, I have COVID for the first time, and surgery was supposed to be next week. We have rescheduled for April 25, 3 weeks later than the first date.
Dr. Kerendi will attempt to repair it first, or replace with a bio valve if necessary.
