About Me (In My Own Words)
1st Open Heart Surgery was a full Tetralogy of Fallot repair at Childrens' Memorial, Chicago. Surgeon was Farouk Idriss.
2nd OHS pulmonary valve replacement, 2005, University of Chicago. Surgeon Basam Mora. This PVR changed my life as I had never experienced "normal", and now I was.
3rd OHS, PVR and TVR. September 2014, Emory University. Typical recovery. Exercise tolerance is good, and I run at least one 5k every year (when I say run, I mean run/walk).
I don't remember my first surgery as I was just shy of my 3rd birthday. 2nd and 3rd surgeries are vividly stuck in my memory.
Both of my recent surgeries were very positive experiences. Intensive care first day is sort of a drag, but the speed at which you feel better and ready to move and get on with it is remarkable.
