About Me (In My Own Words)
I was born with Shone's Complex. My 1st OHS was at 2.5 weeks old, a subclavian flap was performed to correct the coarctation of the aorta. My 2nd OHS was an aortic valve repair at 2.5 years old. My surgeries were completed at UCLA by Dr. Laks. It was known I would eventually need the aortic valve replaced and it was predicted I would need the intervention in my adolescence, but I have far exceeded the expectation. Now, I'm 31, and have reached the point where I need to be thinking about my replacement. I have looked into many options. The Ross procedure is a high contender. Children's Hospital of Wisconsin has an outstanding Adult Congenital Cardiac Program and I feel very lucky to have their support. I'm confident they will help me make the best choice for myself. I look forward to reading your stories and I hope I can offer my support to others. Best wishes!
