About Me (In My Own Words)
I was born with congenital heart defects, aortic stenosis and mitral regurgitation. I had surgery at 6 months old to put in a mechanical mitral valve and repair my aortic valve. I was lucky and didn't have to have my valves replaced until I was 12 years old, they replaced both the mitral and aortic with mechanical valves. They have been working pretty good with no complications. My levels started to raise at the begining of 2020 and sadly have not reduced. I am now 30 and scheduled for surgery to replace both valves on Dec 15th, 2020. Due to my heart defects being from birth they are requesting I have the surgery at Children's Hospital, the team is across both hospitals, I see my cardiologist located next door at University of Colorado Health. I found this website while searching for tips and how to handle this surgery as an adult. I have a loving husband who will be my main support since rising covid cases are making it risky for family to visit and help. Any tips for him would be helpful as well.
