6 years ago I had a weird tightness or pressure in chest. After an ER visit I followed up with a cardiologist. I was 42 years old. The cardiologist diagnosed a BI-cuspid aortic value with moderate aortic stenosis watch and wait was the instructions from doctor. The doctor did not think my chest pain would be related. I continued to get yearly checkups with an ECHO but also continued to have a weird tightness off and on in my chest. Still watch and wait was the instruction. Then Oct. 2023 the pressure was increasing in my chest and I decided to get a second opinion. May 30th 2024 diagnosed with critical aortic stenosis. No aortic aneurism, no aortic dissection and No regurgitation. The new doctor recommended surgery for a mechanical valve. ADAM , thanks to your website, I am currently seeking other doctors to get a second opinion for surgery options and learning about the Ross procedure. Thank you ADAM!

Grace Mason Hi Trisha, Glad to hear you initiated a second opinion and more. I recommend talking to a surgeon that does a lot of Ross procedures, as they are a specialty. I had a Ross at Mt Sinai in NYC in September of 2023 and Dr El-Hamamsy is amazing.

Suelynn Hanegraaf It doesn’t sound like you have a lot of time due to your level of stenosis and symptoms. Praying that you find other opinions soon, and for discernment. 🙏🏻 I’ve had two SAVRs (originally bicuspid aortic valve) and both times my surgeon & I decided on bioprosthetic aortic valves (I wished to avoid taking blood thinners). But everyone is different! And whichever procedure or type of valve you are strongly led to, will be right.
