About Me (In My Own Words)
This is Carol Allison writing for my mother, Sherry Allen (Age 76), describing her heart condition.
She was diagnosed with Aortic Stenosis in March 2010 after passing out and falling in her home. At that time, test results showed her heart to be strong and her local cardiologist advised that she could wait awhile before considering surgery. A 2nd opinion in September 2011 from Duke Medical Center confirmed her diagnosis of severe aortic stenosis. Heart valve surgery was recommended at that time. During her pre-op testing, it was discovered that 3 arteries were partially blocked and in need of bypass surgery.
She is now scheduled for surgery at Duke Medical Center (Dr. Milano) on Tuesday, October 18, 2011. At that time, 3 coronary arterial bypass grafts (triple bypass) and an aortic heart valve replacement procedure will be performed.
Our family would really appreciate your prayers in the days to come in regards to all the details of the surgery and recovery. She will be in the hospital anywhere from 5 - 7 days if there are no complications.
