About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed in the spring of 2011. I was 41 years old. It does not help that my family has a long history of heart disease. I had been feeling very tired for as long as I can remember but no one seemed to know why. At that time, I was struggling with allergies so I decided to see an Allergist. She heard the murmur right away and referred me back to my family doctor. He ordered an echo and sure enough we knew the problem...MVP with moderate regurgitation. It was shocking to us. We had just had our second child and it was very difficult to hear these news. My first cardiologist thought my regurgitation was moderate but I also had symptoms of lightheadedness, dizziness and fatigue. She ordered another echo and TEE which confirmed her diagnosis. Fast forward almost 2 years and my latest echo is showing that my heart's systolic function is beginning to weaken and that I am borderline severe. I have a new cardiologist and he is recommending valve repair/replacement valve right away. At this point, I am preparing myself and family to undergo surgery in about 4 weeks. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
