About Me (In My Own Words)
I’m 53 years old and will be 54 by the time of my surgery.
I had my aortic valve replaced back in 2012. I was born with a bicuspid aortic valve and later developed an aortic aneurysm as my valve was calcifying. Back then I knew I was young for it but I elected to have a tissue valve. I didn’t want a mechanical valve. It was a tough decision and one, even now, I don’t regret.
Several months ago I began experiencing chest discomfort while jogging. It would tighten then go away. I decided to have it examined. After having an echo, I was told it was time to replace the 8 year old valve.
I advise everyone to read everything you can when it comes to making decisions about your healthcare. I’ve decided to get the Ross procedure this time.
My surgery is scheduled for Dec 9th.
