About Me (In My Own Words)
Hello! I guess I never really thought I would have a “valve story” to tell but here I am. I never gave having mitral valve prolapse a second thought over the years as I assumed most people live this condition and are just fine. I was on the every 2 year plan for having an echo done and shared the same cardiologist as my husband. My husband decided to get an ablation done this past October for his A Fib which was successful so far. This reminded me I was a year overdue for my echo so scheduled it for November 9, 2021. I received a call that next morning saying my regurgitation had reached a severe level with a flailing leaflet and the LV was slightly dialated. It was suggested that I have surgery within the next 6 months. I was floored and at a loss!! Living in the Cleveland area, it was never a question of where I would be headed. We researched doctors and decided on Dr Gillinov but that came with a wait as he is in high demand. The waiting is proving to be extremely difficult mentally and I’m trying so hard to remain positive! I have great support here at home and two fairly young (19 and 15) kids to keep me busy! My hope is to gain knowledge, encouragement, confidence, and sanity while going through this process from you all. I hope at some point I can repay the favor!!! God bless and best wishes to you all! ❤️
