About Me (In My Own Words)
I found out a year ago I had heart murmur (via a routine physical) and was sent to see a cardiologist. To my surprise, he told me I had a bicuspid aortic valve and it was showing signs of moderate stenosis/regurgitation and I was to begin annual follow up visits to monitor it. I was told it was most likely going to be another 10-20 yrs before I would need to worry about a valve replacement... Well, I went in 3 wks ago for my "first-annual" echo and was told my stenosis was now severe and I needed to have surgery. I met with a surgeon a week later and he agreed with the diagnosis but was also concerned that I was showing signs of left ventricular hypertrophy - I was to stop working out until after surgery to prevent further stress on my heart. I am 44 yrs young, married with 4 awesome kids. All I can say is it's been a roller-coaster of emotions these last few weeks to say the least! My surgery is now officially on the calendar for January 7th. It seems like it is all moving so fast!! I'm encouraged though after stumbling onto this site, reading Adam's book, and all of you who've gone before me and your individual stories. I am using them to give me strength (along with family, friends & many prayers!) as I prepare for the journey ahead...
